Combining tours: how to combine a walking or bike tour with a food tour in a single day?

Want a bike and food tour in Bruges on the same day? Ride through the countryside, then taste the city. Here's which tour combinations work and which don't.

Which combinations work

A food tour combines best with the countryside bike tour through the Ommeland. Food tour + city bike tour also works. A city bike tour + historical walking tour is not offered, because both cover the same city centre. The exception is the churches tour, which combines well with the city bike tour.

Bike and Food Tour in Bruges: One day, two tours

You have one day in Bruges and you want it all: the history, the scenery and, of course, the food. So the question comes naturally: can I combine a bike tour and a food tour on the same day?

Yes, you can. But not every combination makes sense. Here's how to plan a bike and food tour in Bruges without hearing the same story twice.

The best combination: countryside by bike, the city by taste

My favourite day plan starts outside the city. The countryside bike tour takes you through the Ommeland, the green belt of polders, farms and villages around Bruges. It's the landscape that fed the medieval city and shaped its wealth.

After lunch we switch to the food tour in the centre. You've seen where it all came from, now you taste what Bruges made of it. Two tours, two worlds, no overlap.

The countryside tour is also my tip for families: quieter roads, more space and good solutions for kids from 3 to 15.

City bike tour + food tour: also a good match

Prefer to stay in the city? Then combine the city bike tour with the food tour. By bike you get the big picture of Bruges fast: the ramparts, the windmills, the squares and the canals. On the food tour we slow down and let the city tell its story through what's on the plate.

Different pace, different angle. That's what makes it work.

Why I don't combine a city bike tour with a historical walk

This one I'm often asked about, and I advise against it. The city bike tour and the historical walking tour cover the same centre and largely the same history. You'd pay twice to hear me tell the story of the Burgundian dukes twice. Even I'm not that entertaining.

Choose one of the two. Want the deepest dive into history? Take the walking tour. Want to cover more ground in less time? Take the bike.

The exception is the churches tour. That one goes inside, to the churches and their stories, while the bike tour gives you the city from the outside. So city bike tour + churches tour is a combination I'm happy to plan.

Practical tips for a two-tour day

  • Plan the bike tour in the morning and the food tour in the afternoon, so you don't cycle on a full stomach.
  • Bike tours start at the luggage lockers in Bruges railway station, handy if you arrive by train.
  • E-bikes are available for €25 extra, ideal if you want to save your energy for the tastings.
  • The food tour can't cater for vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free diets. The only swap possible is meat for cheese at the first tasting.

Combining tours: how to combine a walking or bike tour with a food tour in a single day?

A bike and food tour in Bruges on the same day is a great plan. The countryside bike tour through the Ommeland + food tour is the strongest combination. City bike tour + food tour works well too. City bike tour + historical walk is one I don't offer, because you'd see the same city twice, unless you choose the churches tour, which combines well with the city bike tour.
