Dog-Friendly Tours in Bruges: Bring Your Best Friend
"Can our dog come along?" It's a question I get more and more. And for many travellers, the dog isn't a pet, it's family. Leaving it in a hotel room for three hours doesn't feel right.
Good news: on my private walking tours, your dog is welcome. Here's everything you need to know about a dog-friendly tour in Bruges, including the one tour where four legs don't work.
Dogs are welcome on private walking tours
Because every Crusade tour is private, it's only you, your group and me. No strangers who are afraid of dogs, no crowd to squeeze through. We walk at your pace, and if your dog needs a sniff break at a lamppost, the Burgundian dukes can wait.
Just let me know when you book, so I can plan a route with some breathing space and a few spots where your dog can have a drink.
Why not on the bike tour?
The bike tour is the exception. Cycling through Bruges with a dog on a lead isn't safe for the dog, for you or for the people around you. Cobblestones, narrow streets and traffic don't mix well with a lead in one hand.
Travelling with your dog? Then the walking tour is your best choice.
What about museums and churches?
Most museums and churches in Bruges don't allow dogs inside, except assistance dogs. On a walking tour with your dog, we focus on the streets, squares and canals, and on the stories behind them.
That's no loss. The history of Bruges is written on its facades and in the layout of the city. I'll help you read it, so you can decide afterwards what you want to visit, perhaps while someone in your group walks the dog.
A few tips for Bruges with a dog
- Keep your dog on a lead in the city centre.
- Bring water and a bowl, especially in summer.
- Cobblestones can get hot on sunny days, so keep an eye on those paws.
- Bring bags. Bruges is proud of its clean streets.
Pet-friendly tours: are dogs allowed on private walking tours?
Dogs are welcome on all my private walking tours in Bruges. The bike tour is the only exception, for safety reasons. Monuments usually don't allow dogs, so we explore the city from the outside, at a pace that suits the whole family, four legs included.
