Private walking tours Bruges

A private tour is the best way to start a visit to Bruges. You explore the city at your own pace, with a guide who builds the experience around your interests. Book it at the beginning of your stay: the context and local knowledge you gain will sharpen the rest of your time in the city.

Why book a private tour in Bruges?

A private tour gives you the full attention of a licensed local guide who knows Bruges inside out — its history, its architecture, its stories. You decide what you want to see and how fast you want to go. Whether you're travelling as a couple, a family or a small group, the tour adjusts to you rather than the other way around.

There are no strangers in the group, no fixed script, and no pressure to keep pace with twenty other people. Just you, your guide, and the city.

Walking tours or Bike tours?

Crusade offers nine private tours in total. You can explore Bruges on foot or by bike.

Walking tours give you a structured, in-depth understanding of the city's history and architecture. The pace is slower, the stops are closer together, and the focus is on what you're standing in front of.

Bike tours cover more ground. You move through neighbourhoods and canal routes that walking tours don't reach, with the same quality of guiding and historical depth — just more air and more distance.

Private walking tours in Bruges

Four distinct walking tours, each with its own focus:

Private Metropolitan Tour

Bruges as it was at the height of its power — a medieval trading city that shaped commerce across Western Europe. This tour tells that story through the streets, buildings and landmarks that still carry it.

Highlights and Architecture Tour

A well-balanced route through the city's most important landmarks and lesser-visited architectural details. For visitors who want a complete picture of Bruges without missing what makes it worth a closer look.

Private Churches Tour

Bruges' sacred heritage, explored in depth. The city's churches are among its finest buildings, and this tour gives them the time and attention they deserve.

Private Culinary and History Tour

The full historical tour of Bruges, with four tastings of local specialities woven in. History, architecture and gastronomy as a single experience.

Private culinary tours in Bruges

Two culinary tours, each taking a different approach to Bruges' food culture:

Private Culinary and History Tour

Three hours of historical guiding through the city centre, followed by one hour of curated tastings. Four local specialities — meats, cheeses, beers, fries, chocolate — that connect directly to the history you've just walked through.

Private Eight-Tastings Tour

A dedicated food tour: eight tastings at traditional Bruges food shops, with the stories behind each product and the Burgundian culture that shaped them. For those who want to spend an afternoon eating well and understanding what they're eating.

Where do tours start?

All tours start at the Markt — the Market Square in the centre of Bruges. It's easy to find, straightforward to reach from any hotel in the city, and the right place to begin: the square itself is one of the best introductions to what Bruges was and what it became.

FAQ

1. How many private tours does Crusade offer, and what's the difference between them?

Nine private tours in total, split between walking and cycling. The walking tours include a metropolitan history tour, a highlights and architecture tour, a churches tour, and a culinary and history tour that combines historical guiding with four local tastings. The culinary tours offer two approaches: one that weaves tastings into a full historical walk, and one dedicated food tour with eight tastings at traditional Bruges food shops. The cycling tours cover the city centre (3.5 hours), the countryside route to Damme (half day), and the full-day 't Zwin polder tour (34 km). All tours are private — your group only, with a licensed local guide.

2. Should I choose a walking tour or a bike tour?

Depends on what you want to cover. Walking tours give you a slower, more focused experience: stops closer together, more time in front of what you're looking at, and a deeper dive into history and architecture. Bike tours cover more ground — neighbourhoods and canal routes that walking tours don't reach — with the same quality of guiding and historical depth, just more distance and more air. If you want to understand the city's medieval core in detail, walk. If you want a broader sense of Bruges' geography and reach beyond the centre, cycle.

3. Where do the tours start?

All tours start at the Markt — the Market Square in the centre of Bruges. It's easy to reach from any hotel in the city and a good place to begin: the square itself is one of the best introductions to what Bruges was and what it became. Exact meeting point details are confirmed at booking.
